This week, I went to the library here on campus. The library has seven floors in total, and each floor has its own purpose. However, this time, I only visited one floor, which was dedicated to international books.
One surprising thing that happened was that I found a section dedicated entirely to books in Japanese. It seemed to be created in honor of the partnership between Chubu University in Japan and Ohio University in the United States. The space was really interesting. It had walls with Japanese-inspired architecture and a wide variety of books, including history, biology, and science books, as well as entertainment books like manga and novels.
One thing I found kind of interesting was that I couldn’t really figure out the logic behind how the books were organized. To me, it seemed like they were all placed randomly, and I couldn’t find any signs indicating whether they were arranged alphabetically, by author, publisher, book type, or genre. So, I found it a little confusing.
Besides the section dedicated to books in Japanese, there were also other sections for books written in Spanish, books from Guatemala, and books from Southeast Asia and Malaysia.
I thought it was really interesting to discover this, and next time I visit the library, I would love to take closer look at all the titles they have there.
